Who is Grassroots Vet?

About Dr Agnes Meredith

Born and raised in Sāmoa, Dr Agnes Meredith founded Grassroots Vet to make quality veterinary care accessible to pets and communities who need it most.

A 2011 graduate of the University of Queensland, Agnes has worked across Australia and New Zealand with a wide range of animals — from dogs and cats to pigs, cattle, sheep, and even the occasional alpaca. Her professional interests include soft-tissue surgery, emergency and critical care, and senior pet health — inspired by her own much-loved dog, Bruce.

Having witnessed firsthand the challenges of animal care in island communities, Agnes is passionate about delivering contextualised veterinary care — practical, affordable, and compassionate. Through Grassroots Vet, she brings her expertise directly to homes across the greater Auckland region, supporting pets who find clinic visits stressful and communities with limited access to veterinary services.

In her spare time, Agnes works as a locum companion animal veterinarian across New Zealand and as a consultant for the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), delivering livestock and food security projects throughout the Pacific.
